Campus Resources

Many resources exist across campus to help students succeed. Please schedule an appointment with your academic advisor if you would like help connecting with or learning more about any of these resources.

  • Academic Success Center (ASC): Offers academic coaching (one-on-one consultations on study skills and time management), supplemental instruction (student-led review sessions offered multiple times per week), tutoring, and skills-building workshops.
  • Career Exploration ServicesHelps students choose or change majors, discover how careers relate to majors, and apply to graduate/professional schools.
  • The Center for LGBTQIA+ Student Success:Provides confidential support and referral services are provided for Iowa State students who identify as LGBTQ+. Programming and educational resources and offered and available for any student.
  • Child Care & Family Resource Services: Central source of information about on- and off-campus resources and communities to support students with families.
  • Department of Residence (DoR): Offers on-campus housing options and a supportive and inclusive living/learning community for students. Residence Life professional staff and Community Advisors are a first line of support for students seeking help or connection on campus.
  • Financial Aid: Administers financial aid programs and counsels students in planning individual strategies to meet college costs. Financial Aid offers Student Loan Educationas a way to reduce educational borrowing and educate students on borrowing effectively to manage finances.
  • International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO): Assists international students with visa, cultural and personal concerns. ISSO is also home to the International Student Council, which sponsors many exciting activities and events for all international student groups.
  • ISU Police Department: Ensures the safety of students, faculty, staff, and visitors on ISU’s campus. Responds to emergencies, investigates crimes, and provides outreach and education efforts.
  • Margaret Sloss Center for Women and Gender Equity:Promotes equity and social change on ISU’s campus. Through a feminist lens, the center advocates for individuals and groups; provides support, referrals, community and programming; and maintains a safe space.
  • Multicultural Student Affairs, Office of (MSA):Works to improve the retention of multicultural students with an emphasis on academic success and student leadership development.
  • Recreation Services: Provides quality recreation opportunity for the campus community including intramurals, fitness programs, sports clubs, and outdoor recreation.
  • Registrar: Manages all aspects of student records (e.g., course registration, grades, tuition & fees, academic calendar).
  • Reporting Systems: Connects those affected by violent or discriminatory acts with the appropriate support.
    • 911 – for immediate support via the phone when safety is in danger
    • Campus Climate Reporting – for those who experience or witness bias incidents
    • Discrimination and Harassment Reporting – for those who have been mistreated due to their race, color, age, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, genetic information, sex, marital status, disability, or status as a U.S. Veteran; completed through the Office of Equal Opportunity
    • Sexual Misconduct Reporting – for those who have experienced harassment or assault of a sexual nature; completed through the Title IX Office in the Office of Equal Opportunity
  • Students Helping Our Peers (SHOP) Food Pantry:Works to increase food security on campus by offering non-perishable food and personal hygiene items to all ISU students and faculty/staff in need. SHOP is a student-run organization that relies on donations from individuals, campus organizations, local churches, and more.
  • Sorority and Fraternity Engagement: Creates opportunities to become effective citizens through collaboration and community engagement, the development of self-efficacy and leadership, and the advancement of social justice.
  • Student Accessibility Services (SAS):Provides accommodations, referral services, student advocacy, educational programming, and a variety of other services to support the university’s goals and objectives for equal access and full participation.
  • Student Activities Center (SAC): Supports student organizations, leadership development, and entertainment on campus; closely tied to programmatic spaces in the Memorial Union and the Student Union Board.
  • Student Assistance:Assists students as they manage issues surrounding academic concerns, personal matters/emergencies, and navigation of university policies and procedures.
  • Student Counseling Services (SCS):Staff of professional counselors and psychologists work with students to enhance their academic and personal well-being.
  • Student Legal Services (SLS): Provides free and confidential legal services (i.e., consultation, representation) for students currently enrolled at Iowa State University and recognized Iowa State University student groups.
  • Student Wellness: Focuses on holistic wellness and working with students to create a university environment that promotes health and wellbeing.
  • Thielen Student Health Center:Provides an on-campus, (non-emergency) full-service medical clinic and pharmacy that is staffed with licensed physicians, nurse practitioners, and nurses.
  • Writing and Media Center (WMC):Helps students become stronger, more confident communicators. Offers workshops and individual consultations to undergraduate and graduate students working on any form of written, oral, visual, or electronic (WOVE) communication.
  • Veterans Center: Provides community and services for all military-affiliated members of our campus with a central lounge, academic and social programming, and assistance navigating military benefits and paperwork.
